Husch Blackwell Unveils New Artificial Intelligence Practice Group

National law firm Husch Blackwell has officially launched its Artificial Intelligence (AI) team, a comprehensive cross-practice group dedicated to representing clients in AI-related matters. This encompasses providing counsel on emerging legal and regulatory frameworks surrounding AI and addressing associated risks. Megan Scheiderer, AI practice co-chair and partner specializing in commercial litigation and mass tort & products liability, expressed the firm's motivation, stating, “This practice is in response to the tremendous interest and need of our clients." Scheiderer emphasized the collaboration between the interdisciplinary attorney practice group and the firm’s data science team, one of the largest in the nation, to offer clients a unique perspective and unparalleled expertise in AI matters.

Scheiderer shares co-chair responsibilities with Rudy Telscher, an intellectual property litigation partner. The AI team draws from lawyers across the firm’s nationally recognized industry and practice groups. They collaborate closely with technologists, corporate legal departments, and risk management professionals to evaluate how AI impacts individual client regulatory compliance programs. The group leverages deep industry-specific knowledge, spanning various sectors such as banking, finance, transportation, logistics, higher education, digital health, manufacturing, and retail.

Working in tandem with Husch Blackwell’s data science team, led by Chief Information Officer Blake Rooney, the firm ensures a holistic approach. Rooney stated, “Husch Blackwell has a long and successful history of helping clients leverage technology… What’s new is that we’re expanding the scope of our services to cover AI." The data science team, one of the first and largest in-house teams of data scientists among U.S. law firms, aids in building and operationalizing AI solutions to enhance legal service delivery. The AI practice's leadership extends beyond Scheiderer and Telscher, including partners Nicole Bashor, Anne Cartwright, Erik Dullea, Tessa Jacob, Marci Kawski, Laura Malugade, Mhare Mouradian, Shannon Peters, Bert Seefeldt, Chris Smith, David Stauss, and Dustin Taylor. Each leader brings expertise in various legal domains, solidifying Husch Blackwell’s position to guide clients through the complexities of AI-related legal challenges.
