Based on insights from a statement released on February 5, 2024, by Dan Sturman, Roblox's Chief Technology Officer, the development of this new system necessitated the creation of in-house Large Language Models (LLMs). These LLMs are designed to enable seamless translation of text-based messages with a base latency of just 100 milliseconds, ensuring that conversations feel instantaneous for users. Sturman illustrated the transformative potential of this technology, envisioning scenarios where players discover that their newfound friends on Roblox, whom they've been conversing with in different languages, were communicating effortlessly without either party even noticing the language barrier.
